Collection of 169 newspapers containing articles, letters, announcements, and other items documenting the lives and works of Samuel Johnson and James Boswell. 114 issues contain items related to Samuel Johnson, including comments on the Dictionary from 1754; many articles, comments, and news items concerning his final days, death, and funeral; and later appreciations and anecdotes. In addition, 55 newspapers, some Scottish, document James Boswell's life and publications, including his political alliances and his 1784 meeting with Edmund Burke in Glasgow. Newspapers and periodicals represented include The World; The London Chronicle; The Mirror; The Edinburgh Evening Courant; The Morning Post, and Daily Advertiser; and Town and Country.
